Most of the times when a new business starts no matter if it is online or offline it is all about getting new customers to get the momentum going.

However most times Business do the wrong thing by not connecting, communication and relating to their potential customers. This is why the potential new customers get pissed off because they feel like they being treated like they are a number and of course they are not.

First of all let me make one thing clear it doesn’t matter if what you have is an Internet Business or if you have a Business in Retail or otherwise in offering a professional service the same rules apply when it comes to attracting new customers.

The first thing you have to do is find out what the customers wants and needs are, that way you can target them in your niche and offer them a attractive solution to their challenges they want to resolve.

For Example: If you work in retail which right now is not doing well because a lot of people start buying stuff online instead of going out shopping, then you need to know your customer and know what they want to resolve quickly by buying your product.

To be more specific, when I go to a clothing store and I am browsing through getting a pair of jeans I won’t really know what exactly I want from the jeans I buy except that I like them to compliment my body shape and make me feel good. So when the shopping assistant ask’s me if I need help I would say No at first because I don’t know what I want.

This is where if the shopping assistant wouldn’t ask more this store would just lost a customer in me because after just browsing around if I don’t see what can fit me and make me feel good in a jeans I just walk out of the store.

So how would you approach a potential customer like me to buy a jeans from your store?

Simple you ask more questions to get to know me better such as:

  • What exactly are you looking for in a jeans?
  • Is there any other specific clothing that you searching for? Just asking so I can make it easier for you to find it.
  • Did you had a specific type of jeans in mind, any sort of style?
  • Is price an objection for you or is the sky the limit when it comes to buying your jeans?
  • Are you looking to buy the jeans for yourself or as a gift?

See how I ask questions where it is pretty much open ended and not just a Yes or No Question, the questions I ask are leading to a conversation which once you have connected with your customer and that chanel is open you can build on trust.

Why trust, isn’t it just about the numbers?

Ever heard the say “You buy from people you like?”

That is why, when you trust someone that they assist you the best way they can and they make you feel good about yourself then  you buy and the price tag won’t matter as much because they feel the value they are getting from the service you provide with what they buy from you is way higher then what they end up paying for.

Guess what happens after they purchased the jeans, they will become a regular customer and keep on referring new customers because of the experience they first had when they shopped in your store.

That’s how you attract Customers not by bombarding them with information they didn’t ask for and asking them YES or No Questions that don’t build the relationship with you.

It’s also not by hiring Telemarketers that just dial through the numbers and don’t care about the customer just doing their 9 to 5 job reading a script to make a sale without listening to the customer.
